Big Bang
There was nothing once. Not a mail slot or shoe box,
not a stoppered bottle or an under the bed.
And then there was, or so scientists say
when they listen in on the cosmic hiss
and talk of a bang, the big one,
that took us to everything fast,
an expansion that kicked out gravity
and opposites attracting and particles
ready to fit. One whomping flash
brewed life from nothing-now all that's left
is a buzz on our TVs. And though we can't figure out
the heavy gases, our blown-up raft still holds.
A slim trick cracked it all open,
or some careless god who dropped a glint of life
then marveled at the pressure in his ears.
