GREY

GREY SKY by Kacey Carmassi

SASKATCHEWAN SKY
by Michael Lee Johnson

Saskatchewan
sky,
just a preview of love,
chip off
an edge of
prairie
chip an edge off
winter—
and opening
multiple eyes
toward spring.
They—lovers, find themselves
near evening bush fire—
great seal fish and open lake,
cuddle together—
so wonderful there—
where she comes from,
where did she go to
from here.

WINTER'S DIAMOND
by Amy Hrynchuk

Sinking back
into the corner of the couch
I do my best
to hide under the ever present
throw blanket
as I glance out the patio doors
that lead
out to that winter wonderland.
Every few seconds
the fluttering red maple leaf
makes its way
into the corner of my vision.
Just enough
to pull my attention away
from the large
mesmerizing snowflakes
that have started
to slowly float to the ground.

Sinking back
into the corner of the couch
I do my best
to hide under the ever present
throw blanket
as I become more focused
at the spectacle
forming just outside the patio doors.
Those large mesmerizing
snowflakes are beginning to cover
the ground beneath them
like a blanket.
But not just any ordinary blanket.
A winter blanket
that sparkles
like a flawless diamond
when the sun hits it just right.

OUTLINES
by Michael Fraley

I am fascinated by the outline of a thing—

The coast of any country
Affords the opportunity to chart a winding path
From headlands to the sloping sands.

A face in profile reveals its personality,
Like seeing a performer from a backstage angle
Not presented to the public.

An argument is more than can be seen
In the thick of the fray.

By stepping out beyond the border of dissent,
One is able to absorb and hold two points of view
In alternating prominence.

From a distance, the shapes of things display
Worlds of hidden impulse.

What can't be taken in, degree by slow degree,
Still shines in its entirety.
